Bio
Jen Santarelli (°1974, Springfield) is an abstract painter who is interested in breaking down common objects like maps, comic book pages, and floor tiles into their most basic design elements. With influences ranging from the paintings of Piet Mondrian to the stained glass of Frank Lloyd Wright, she is inspired to bring out the design of ordinary things while exploring the relationship between light and dark.
Design has been a part of her life from an early age. From the first time she saw how a shadow fall across a ceramic white tile floor, the world became a series of shapes to be highlighted and outlined. While she also used this approach in the digital realm as a web designer, designing with paint is her first love.
Viewers of her work may not immediately guess the subject matter being represented in each piece, but she endeavors to delight art lovers when they make the connection between her work and the things they represent.
